Behind The Seams - Parts of a Baseball Cap

Understanding the parts of a baseball cap is crucial to getting the most out of your design.

Tweaking and customising the different components will ensure your caps, hats, and snapbacks stand shoulders and head above the rest.

In this article, we'll break down the anatomy of a custom baseball cap and explore the different parts that go into making this popular accessory to help you create your perfect product.

Baseball Cap Crown

The crown is the main body of the baseball cap, covering the wearer's head. Our caps typically have five or six panels of fabric sewn together to create their structure.

We can make custom baseball caps with different profile heights to properly encapsulate all the cap styles. Whether you want a trucker cap, snapback or dad cap, we can adjust the height of the crown to meet your design.

Baseball Cap Button

The button on a baseball cap, also known as the crown button, serves a structural purpose by joining the fabric panels at the top of the crown. It helps maintain the cap's shape and provides a point of reference during manufacturing. While some believe it aids ventilation, its primary function is structural rather than improving airflow.

You can choose to have different coloured crown buttons to match your colour scheme and branding.

Baseball Cap Brim

The brim, bill or visor is the part of the cap extending outwards from the crown's front. It is typically made of a stiff material, such as plastic or cardboard, to maintain its shape. The brim serves the practical purpose of shielding the wearer's eyes from the sun, but it also adds a stylish element to the cap.

Our caps have curved or flat peaks, and you can choose different-coloured patterns and materials on each side. You can even alter the length to make long or short-brim caps to give you complete control over your caps.

Baseball Cap Closure

The closure is the mechanism that allows the cap to be adjusted to fit the wearer's head. We offer the traditional snapback (7 or 14 holes) velcro fixing, metal buckle, elastic, sealed or fitted closure.

If you're designing a sporting product or fashion accessory, you can ensure the closure matches your original aesthetic.

Baseball Cap Eyelets

Eyelets are small holes on the top of the crown that allow for ventilation. They are usually made of metal or plastic and strategically placed to allow air circulation and keep the wearer cool.

While the eyelets perform a valuable function, you can choose from different materials, styles and colours to elevate the aesthetical appeal of your design.

Baseball Cap Sweatband & Baseball Cap Tape

The sweatband is a strip of fabric that lines the inside of the cap, running along the bottom edge of the crown. Its purpose is to absorb sweat and keep it from dripping onto the wearer's face. Sweatbands can be made of various materials, such as cotton or terry cloth, and are sewn into the cap.

We offer the option to include different coloured sweatbands with your branding or logos.

Baseball cap tape, or seam tape, is a strip of fabric sewn along the inside of the crown's seams. Its purpose is to reinforce the seams and prevent them from unravelling. This is especially important for custom baseball caps, as they are often worn frequently and must withstand wear and tear.

As with the sweatband, we can customise the baseball cap tape to meet your needs, too.
