What Size Enamel Pin Badges Should I Choose? (And Other Products)
Creating custom products is fun, exciting, and profitable. But the sheer number of customisable options can be daunting.
One of the choices you’ll have to make is the size of your product, which can be tricky. Whether you are creating a subtle corporate logo or a bold piece of wearable art, understanding standard enamel pin badge, coin, and keyring sizes is crucial to making your artwork pop without blowing your budget.
Understanding the Basics of Product Dimensions
Before diving into the creative process, you need to know how to measure enamel pins, keyrings, and coins (assuming your coin design isn’t circular). We always measure products by their longest edge, whether that is the height, width, or a diagonal.
Most clients choose dimensions that range from 20mm to 50mm, but we can make products in almost any size.
Comparing Popular Sizes
If you’re unsure what size to choose, 25mm to 50mm is a good starting point for most enamel pin badge designs.
At the smaller end, around 25mm, simple logos, icons and designs with fewer details tend to work well. As you move towards 40mm and 50mm, there’s more room for detailed illustrations, characters, lettering and more complex artwork.
The majority of the pin badges we produce fall somewhere within this range, but these aren’t fixed sizes you have to choose from. Your artwork might work perfectly at 30mm, 35mm, 45mm or something completely different.
And if your idea calls for something much smaller or considerably bigger?
That’s where things get interesting.
Whatever Size You Want, We Can Handle It
We’ve been in this game for such a long time that we’ve designed and produced almost every size of pin, coin, and keyring you can imagine. Some of our favourite products we’ve produced have been tiny-teeny, or ridiculously large.
Let’s take a look at products ranging from the microscopic to the down-right hefty.
You Wanna Get Crazy? Let’s Get Crazy.
No matter how insane your idea might seem, there’s always someone out there with a crazier idea.
Just take a look at this 11kg challenge coin we made for a secret project (we never did find out what it was for), or this fabric-busting pin badge that no regular shirt could hope to support.
Final Merch Size Considerations
There’s no single “correct” size for an enamel pin badge, coin or keyring. The right size depends on your artwork, how much detail you want to keep, where the finished product will be used and, of course, your budget.
At Made by Cooper, we’ve produced everything from ridiculously tiny pin badges to enormous coins and oversized pieces that barely qualify as badges anymore. So don’t feel restricted by the examples above. If your design needs to be bigger, smaller or somewhere in between, we can help you work out what will suit it best.
If you’re unsure, send us your artwork and tell us what you’re planning to make. Our team can recommend a size that gives your design enough room to look its best without making the product unnecessarily large or expensive.
And if you want a 10mm duck? We can do that too.
