Basic Woven vs Standard Woven Patches - What’s the Difference?
We offer a wide range of custom patches, but two of them sound very similar, and without knowing the differences, it could be challenging to choose the right one for your project.
So let's take a look at the subtle differences between basic woven and our standard woven patches.

What Are Basic Woven Patches?
Basic woven patches are the straightforward, no-fuss option when you want your design to look good, without overcomplicating things. They’re made with a single layer of woven threads, clean, simple, and practical. Think of them as your “every day” patch: they don’t go overboard on crispness or colour richness, but they get the job done.
These patches work best when you're aiming for bold shapes or undetailed designs, think big blocks of colour, punchy graphics, or clear typography that doesn’t rely on tiny details. If you're looking for simplicity and ease, a basic woven patch is the perfect choice.

What Are Standard Woven Patches?
Standard woven patches are the next step up with a smoother weave and a touch more finesse. Picture the same basic woven idea, but with denser threadwork. The increased threadage lets you capture finer lines, smoother gradients, and sharper edges. Creating patches for logos, intricate icons, or text with detail? These patches are the premium quality product.
They also feel a bit more refined under your fingers and tend to show colours with a richer saturation.

What’s the Difference?
- Cost: Basic woven patches are the more cost-effective option because they require fewer materials to manufacture, but the price reflects the quality.
- Texture and feel: Basic feels more utilitarian: flatter and slightly less defined. Standard feels tighter and sleeker, think less “budget fabric” and more “polished weave.”
- Detail and clarity: Go Basic if your design’s bold and uncomplicated. Switch to Standard when the little things matter, tiny letters, fine lines, or smooth shading.
- Colour and precision: Basic colours work for bold logos and designs, but they’re not going to look ultra-vivid. Standard brings a touch more pop and sharpness, just by that denser weave. The difference is most notable in patches with large areas of white. With basic patches the white is a little less vibrant.
So, basically (heh), Basic Patches are great for simple designs and smaller budgets, while regular woven patches are there when the design needs that little extra crispness and detail.
